Pepper

As much as we love our single furry companions to pieces, we also recognize that they often need buddies of their own.

Miranda and her husband were perfectly happy with their young cat, Luna, but they felt there was a missing piece to their family.

They knew that it could take months to properly introduce Luna to a new kitty sibling, but they also had no doubt it would be well worth their efforts. So, in January 2017, Miranda and her husband went to the BC SPCA Kelowna Branch in search of that missing piece.

Almost two years on, Miranda has written to us and shared how they met the most wonderful addition to their family, Pepper:

My husband and I were looking for a companion for our then six-month-old kitten, Luna. We came to the BC SPCA Kelowna Branch, as we wanted to adopt, and to see if we could find a good fit.

As we entered into the cat room, I casually looked down and saw a beautiful orange and white kitty all curled up on a stool. I put my hand out so she could smell me, and instantly she pushed her face into my hand and started purring.

I knew right then that Pepper was the one!

We brought her home and slowly introduced her to Luna. We set Pepper up in a separate room to give each of them space and we supervised them when they were together to break up any fights.

We bought Pepper her own litter box, food bowls and bed. When we weren’t home we kept them separated, and when we came home after work we would let them play and get used to one another. It took only one to two months before they were comfortable and even started grooming each other.

We can’t believe it has almost been two years since we adopted Pepper. She is extremely curious with a bold catitude, but she is cuddly and sweet as well (hence her name—spicy like a hot pepper yet sweet like a bell pepper). We couldn’t have asked for a better addition to our home!

Thank you to you and your husband, Miranda, for choosing adoption as your first option. We are thrilled that you took time and researched how to introduce a second cat into your home. We can see in the loving relationship that Pepper and Luna have that your efforts have truly been worth it. Your feline pals will always be grateful.
