Record numbers for summer camp registration

April 11, 2017

With record sign-ups to date, BC SPCA summer camps could host an unprecedented number of B.C. children this year.

“We’ve had a fantastic response so far,” says Paula Neuman, humane education manager for the BC SPCA. “Some weeks at certain locations filled up on the first day.”

For Neuman and the humane education team, an upward trend in registrations indicates a positive future for animals – and beyond. Camp activities include outdoor games, crafts, songs, skits and daily time with specially-selected animals, all focused on teaching empathy and critical thinking skills.

“Each child we reach can take what they learn, go home and apply it to their relationships with animals, as well as other people and the environment,” says Neuman.

Neuman urges parents to register their children as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. For locations in the Lower Mainland, Victoria, Cowichan, Nanaimo, Cranbrook and Kelowna, that means visiting today to find full details and reserve a spot.

For families that need financial assistance, there are limited bursaries available; complete information and the application form can be found on each location’s registration page.

Additional locations that plan to offer camps are: Sechelt, Campbell River, Comox, Kamloops, Nelson, Penticton, Vernon, Fort St. John, Prince George and Prince Rupert. Registration information will be posted when available, or complete the online form to be notified via email when registration opens in your area. Please note that some of these locations are dependent on Canada Summer Jobs grants before camp registration can go forward.
