Brave Beau, shot in the leg, hopes for ‘fur’ever home after surgery

March 15, 2017

A lovable pup has found himself in need at the Burnaby SPCA after a rough start in life.

Beau, a two-year-old border collie-kelpie mix was surrendered after an investigation in the Cariboo District, where he was found with three buckshot pellets in his leg.

“Beau was found limping and it was determined that he had been previously shot,” says Ryan Voutilainen, BC SPCA Burnaby Branch manager.

“He was kept outside in unsafe conditions without access to proper shelter or care.”

For Beau to have a brighter future, he first has to undergo some surgery to save his leg. The medical costs associated with his care are more than $6,000. A non-profit organization, the BC SPCA relies primarily on donations from the public to help the province’s most vulnerable animals.

Burnaby SPCA staff are hoping Beau’s story will have a happier ending, as they’re sure he won’t be there long once he’s healed and back to his affectionate self – and available for adoption.

“Beau is such an outgoing guy! He loves everyone, including all the other animals. We just want him to have that chance to spread that love even more in a forever home,” Voutilainen says.

If you want to help Beau and other animals like him in need at the Burnaby SPCA, you can donate online at spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency or in person at 3202 Norland Ave., Burnaby.
