Since Helen Franklin Calder was a child she cared for both cats and dogs. After some time in the RCAF she married and eventually became a widow in 1969. There were no children so it was natural that Helen gave a good home to many cats and dogs over the years. She never turned an animal in need away from her door.
She arranged to leave a legacy to the BC SPCA for animal care following her demise on September 2nd, 2007.
