Craig Daniell, Chief Executive Officer

Craig Daniell joined the British Columbia SPCA in November 2002 as General Manager of Cruelty Investigations and was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Society in April 2003. Before joining the BC SPCA, Craig served as Director of Investigations at the Ontario SPCA for three years. Prior to coming to Canada, Craig earned a law degree in his native South Africa and worked in a corporate law firm. He then joined the diplomatic service, serving as a legal and policy advisor for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Pretoria before accepting a post to the United Nations in New York, where he worked on matters related to the law of the sea; animal protection; the Security Council and international law.

Under his leadership, the BC SPCA has rapidly dramatically expanded its animal welfare programming, tripled its fundraising revenue and for the first time received provincial government funding for its capital projects. The Society has also been internationally recognized for its ground breaking work in numerous areas, including farm animal welfare, cat welfare and the Whistler area sled dog investigation. During this period, the Society has consistently achieved the highest rating for transparency and accountability in the charitable sector and became the first SPCA or humane society in Canada to receive the Imagine Canada Certification.

Through its 37 branches, five veterinary clinics, wildlife rehabilitation centre, Animal Helpline and numerous provincial departments, the BC SPCA provides a wide range of services to meet its mission of protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.
